He was born in Rovereto in 1901 and in 1915 he moved to Florence. In 1918 he enrolled in Electrical Engineering at the University of Pisa, graduating in 1924 from the Milan Polytechnic. He studied music and began to take an interest in sculpture: he enrolled at the Brera Academy in Adolfo Wildt's course. He took part in the Milan Triennale in 1930, 1933 and 1936.
