Glory of a Broken Wing - to Elisabeth Fisher, the installation created in New York in 1984, and whose length exceeds sixteen meters, is the theme inspiring the show dedicated to Angelo Savelli, the artist born in Calabria and moved to New York in 1953. The work pays homage to his wife, an American journalist who died tragically in the same year, after a wedding lasted for thirty years; here it is reproduced thanks to the Argenterio Savelli Collection (www.angelosavelli.com).
Artist
Angelo Savelli has been teaching at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rome since 1940. In the period between 1946 and 1947 his first “white on white” works appear, destined to become the distinctive feature of his research. In 1953 he married the journalist Elisabeth Fischer and moved to New York. In 1958 he held a one-man show at the Leo Castelli Gallery and in 1959 he was appointed director of the art school “La Guardia Memorial House”. From 1960 he taught at the University of Pennsylvania together with Piero Dorazio and, later, in other American universities.
