The effort of today's painter is to create new "quantums" in the awareness of ultimate reality, if not in the fatality of an intuition. Beyond the vain debate of the post-impressionist, post-cubist, post-expressionist aesthetics, and the stubborn persistence of the residual metaphysical spells even in the aesthetic ones; beyond abstract academicism on the deduced composite, on the analogical repetitive.

From “Domus”, Milan, October 1956: Dal diario del Brasile (Spazio inquieto), 1954 in the home of Graziano Gasparini in Caracas.

Living in consciousness means living in tension, to touch flashes of truth. Maybe open one more door, or maybe just a crack, for endless other doors to open.

Graziano Gasparini (1924-2019), Venezuelan architect of Italian origins.
