As part of Art Basel-Basel, Galleria dello Scudo is participating, in collaboration with Galleria Continua and Repetto Gallery, with a work by Arcangelo Sassolino in Unlimited, the section dedicated to large-scale works.
Everyday life, a site specific work made for the occasion, explores the interplay between glass, granite and steel to represent the tension between fragility and resilience, a metaphor for the human condition.
A rock of granite presses down on a tempered glass plate, emphasizing the suspended weight and the delicate balance maintained through silent tension. The monumental scale and transparency of the glass allow light and perspective to enhance the tension between the visible and invisible forces at play. Its dual nature—solid yet unpredictable—echoes the tension between vulnerability and resilience. The imposing granite bears down relentlessly, creating a stark contrast with the glass’ apparent delicacy. Everyday life reflects on the invisible burdens we carry, emphasizing the endurance required to maintain balance amidst the pressures of daily life.
Arcangelo Sassolino said:
“Everyday life is a work that may appear simple, but the tension it evokes is real. The materials are under stress, and their vulnerability is not metaphorical—it’s physical, all the elements of this sculptures are activated. For me, the work functions like a countdown where you don’t know if it will last another five minutes or five hundred years. That ambiguity creates a real emotional response.
This is not just a symbolic gesture. I want that fragility to be real”.
