Galleria dello Scudo, founded in 1968, continues its exhibiting policy focused on modern and contemporary Italian art, proposing for the next edition of Art Basel a selection of artists chosen amongst the main exponents of abstract art in the second half of the 20th century.
Some of the works on display are worth mentioning: Carla Accardi, with a work which inspired the fashion creations of the Atelier Sorelle Fontana, Rome, in the 1950s; Alberto Burri, an absolutely unique author within the international artistic milieu who, with the use of fire, opened new avenues of investigation on the matter; Giorgio de Chirico, with a painting of the ’20s belonged to Léonce Rosenberg and to the British novelist Sydney Alfred Schiff; Lucio Fontana, here represented by a rare big dimensions ceramic “Crucifix”; Emilio Vedova with a large painting realized in 1983 belonging the cycle Rosso.
