In keeping with its exhibition programme, always devoted to modern and contemporary Italian art, Galleria dello Scudo presents a selection of artists chosen among the leading exponents of abstract research in the second half of the 20th century: Carla Accardi, interpreter of the dialectical relationship between sign and colour; Afro Basaldella, present in the great American collections after the Second World War, represented here by the large canvas that belonged to Stanley J. Seeger Jr. of Princeton; Alberto Burri, who with his “Combustioni”, “Cretti” and “Cellotex” confirms himself as an artist of absolute uniqueness on the international art scene; Giuseppe Capogrossi, with a rare monochrome relief from the 1960s; Toti Scialoja, among the Italian artists most closely in dialogue with the American context; and Emilio Vedova, always marked by the extraordinary expressive power of his gesture.
