Galleria dello Scudo presents in the section Decades a focus dedicated to Toti Scialoja and his research between 1956-1957. This period marks for Toti Scialoja the intensification of relationships with the American context.
In 1956 the artist, already awarded the previous year at the Carnegie Institute in Pittsburgh, is in New York to attend the inauguration of the solo show by Catherine Viviano, where he exhibits paintings that mark the beginning of a new season of his abstract research.
This phase is limited to just two years, before the further change recorded in 1958 with the first “impronte”. He then attended the protagonists of the American avant-garde, including Willem de Kooning, Robert Motherwell, Mark Rothko, Philip Guston, Conrad Marca-Relli.
