Gianni Dessì, legenda

Introduction

Numerous exhibitions were organized in Italy and abroad between the 1980s and 1990s that aroused and increased the interest of critics around the work of Gianni Dessì, one of the most important Italian artists in the panorama of contemporary art. A training also linked to avant-garde theater and the use of combining different expressive languages have given his work a completely original character. Already in his first works in Rome at San Pietro station in 1977 or on the occasion of the personal exhibition at the Ugo Ferranti gallery in June of the following year, he combines painting with various expressive ways, such as the use of concentrated light or installations which by their three-dimensionality enhance the shape.

His paintings are not forced into the "hortus conclusus" of the canvas, but expand beyond, even onto the walls, which welcome them as a desire to extend the transformation process that they exhibit to an "other" space, outside the limits canons. "Legenda" is the title of this exhibition, in which the artist intends to emphasize the antinomies and ambiguities of a silent language, such as that of painting.
