Giuseppe Capogrossi

Introduction

With the exhibition by Giuseppe Capogrossi, Galleria dello Scudo highlights how the artists can be fully considered a personality who, with Fontana and Burri, among the full-fledged innovators of the Italian painting in the second half of the 20th century. In paintings such as Superficie 37 of 1952, then entred into the Martine and Pierino Ghisla collection, Locarno, Superficie 184 of 1956, belonged to the Galleria del Naviglio and for the occasion chosen to illustrate the catalogue cover, or Superficie 192 of 1957, as well as in the numerous lithographs exhibited in support of the exhibition, the artist reveals the constant resumption of a “one-sign” code reiterated in an infinite series of combinations, giving full recognizability to a cipher in no way associated with any symbolic or imitative function.
