4-8 September 2024
From September 4 to 8, 2024, returns Panorama, the cultural project that ITALICS dedicates annually to some of the most extraordinary locations in our country. For the fourth edition of Panorama, ITALICS has chosen the Monferrato area, inviting Carlo Falciani to curate a widespread exhibition.
The 2024 edition will propose a “special tale” that winds through the municipalities of Camagna Monferrato, Vignale Monferrato, Montemagno Monferrato and Castagnole Monferrato, following a route that winds through the hills of Piedmont, inspired by the topos of the Grand Tour, an ideal ancestor of today’s slow travel.
Carlo Falciani’s curatorial project takes its inspiration from La Civil conversazione, a text by Stefano Guazzo first printed in 1574 and set precisely in Casale Monferrato. The work had great success in European, being immediately translated into Latin, English, French and German.
The text is structured around an imaginary conversation. The protagonists are a man victim of the melancholy generated by a long hospitalization that has isolated him from social life, and a doctor friend of his. Through this literary contrivance, Guazzo advances the thesis of the importance of building a community based, precisely, on civil conversation among all its constituents, to better foster a social development that benefits everyone.
