Umberto Benappi Gallery in collaboration with Galleria dello Scudo and with the creative support of Riccardo Pietrantonio, inaugurates the winter season in the “mountain gallery”, with the exhibition Emilio Vedova + Arcangelo Sassolino. Sulla materia. The Sansicario space was conceived to host projects created with the collaboration of Italian and foreign galleries to give the possibility of proposing culture in territories different from the usual places.

Galleria dello Scudo offers a dialogue between two artists from different eras, who use mediums and techniques united by a strong gesture.

The comparison between these two artists arises from their commonality with respect to the concept of artistic gesture. In Emilio Vedova’s artistic research, furrows, engravings, superimpositions, sketches and lumps of matter combine in an infinite repertoire of strong pictorial tension. Sassolino cements are the result of tearing the material from a matrix. In fact, on the one hand they reveal the violent gesture of throwing the material, on the other they bring with them the memory of an immaculate surface: «only in the moment of tearing from the polycarbonate support is the outline formed», states the artist, «and the surface, smooth and shiny, is exposed without any subsequent intervention. For me this work is the feeling of the perimeter that cannot be resolved.”
