“The work develops on its support, but... the work is born on you, and inside you, and behind you, and in the space around you: in the part of space that you can see, in the landscape that you can frame, at your disposal… It is not a problem of surface, perhaps it has never been; objects, signs and all the things taking part in the work must be necessarily placed on the support to show them, but... they are outside and inside at the same time, in an atmosphere created by the degree of immersion implemented within the work and its participants.”
This testimony from 1985 reveals the spirit with which Marco Gastini has always tackled the research on materials, from copper to stone, from slate to mother-of-pearl, used to give brilliant effects to the colour layers. The works collected at Galleria dello Scudo as from May 7, 2013, in an exhibition entirely dedicated to the artist from Turin, offer a broad overview of the various results of an activity always based on criteria of extraordinary stylistic refinement.
