Giorgio Morandi

Giorgio Morandi is the artist to whom Galleria dello Scudo dedicates an articulated anthological exhibition within a program of documentation on the most important personalities of Italian art of the twentieth century started since the beginning of his exhibition activity.
With 20 paintings from public and private collections, as many watercolors and drawings and a rich selection of etchings, the exhibition offers an articulated overview of an undisputed master of art not only in Italy.

The exhibition itinerary opens with Natura morta (Still Life) from 1932, dominated by the centrality of the bottle which has become the iconic presence of many of his paintings, found for the occasion after having been in an unknown location for a long time. Views of via Fondazza and landscapes of Grizzana of 1942-43 are placed side by side with Natura morta (Still Life) of 1943, which made its debut at Documenta, Kassel in 1955 and then reappeared at the IV Biennial of Sao Paulo in Brazil in 1957, to arrive at the compositions of the following decade between which are worth mentioning the 1952 canvas of the “yellow cloth” series that belonged to Lionello Venturi or that of 1964, with a now rarefied painting.
