After a long period in which he abandoned painting, from the end of the 1970s Emilio Vedova got impetuously back to it with a renewed strength, not only in the gesture, but in the use of color as well. The travel to Mexico in 1980 granted the artist a “kaleidoscope of emotions”, as he himself wrote in a letter to Rudi Fuchs. Suggestions of what he wrote in his Diario de Mexico from 1980-1981 are present also in the first series of the Compresenze cycle, created in 1981 and exhibited in Eindhoven in the same year, and resurface also in the following production, as witnessed by the selection of mixed media collected on the occasion – all characterized by a color strength that the artist was rediscovering also in the large-dimension cycles as from the first 1980s.
