Eliseo Mattiacci and Giovanni Frangi, Cosmos

Introduction

Cosmos, space, the forces governing nature are the theme that unites the works of two protagonists of Italian art in the last decades: Eliseo Mattiacci and Giovanni Frangi. The exhibition opens with the diptych Sole e luna, conceived by Mattiacci in 1976, when his research, still with a strong conceptual value, presented frequent references to ancient cultures. Fundamental is the awareness that every thought, as well as every creative process, take place within the coordinates of day and night, of the relationship between heaven and earth; “Life itself is the manifestation of an energy of which the sun, the moon and the whole cosmos are active dynamos; it is in fact to them that ancient civilizations have always looked at, leaving imperishable evidence of man’s relationship with the stars” (Bruno Corà, 1991).
